The
Madison County Agri-Business Center strives to provide current
and relevant training courses for beginners, intermediate users,
and specialized or advanced computer users. Courses are free to
all Madison County farmers and Madison County residents. The Agri-Business
Center’s goal is to provide the community with the technological
skills it needs and wants. The following courses reflect initial
course design and content. If you have a need to learn a particular
software application and do not see it here, please contact us.
The Center considers special requests for training on computer
software or special projects. For staff availability and consideration,

Introduction
to the Internet: Lecture/Presentation: Available On or
Off Site: Gives a history of the Internet, describes functions
of the Internet, discusses in-depth common questions and current
concerns of the Information age. 4 hours. Beginners only.
Mastering
Search Engines: Lecture & Hands On: Available On
Site: Instructor-led exercises in finding information on the World
Wide Web, Searching strategies, Useful links, Tips, etc. Find
medical, family, job, and educational information using the most
relevant search engines available. 6 hours. All levels of users
welcome.
Introduction
to Microsoft Windows: Hands On: Available On Site: Learn
computer basics such as how to use the mouse and desktop. Work
with applications, files and folders, use Help and Find functions,
learn how to turn the computer off and on and how to shut it down
and how to change desktop settings. 4 hours. Beginners only.
Introduction
to Microsoft Word: Hands On: Available On Site: Learn
how to create and edit a document, save, close and open documents.
Use the spelling and grammar checker, use shortcuts, move text,
format fonts and paragraphs, and entire documents, and finally
print your work. 6 hours (Two 15 minute breaks and 1 hour for
lunch). Beginner to Intermediate Users.
Introduction
to Microsoft Excel: Hands On: Available On Site: Learn
how to create a worksheet, create formulas, format and use absolute
cell reference, and print your worksheet. 4 hours. Beginner to
Intermediate Users.
Computer
Maintenance: Lecture: Available On or Off Site: Discover
the computer’s hard drive organization. Learn what virtual
memory means. Discover what those file extensions mean. Learn
how to backup and restore and how to use WinZip. Mostly learn
where stuff is stored on a computer and how to troubleshoot when
you run into common problems. 4 hours. Intermediate to Advanced
Users.
Basic
Network Administration: Lecture and Hands On: Available
On or Off Site (must have access to a network): Learn what network
administrators actually do and how to perform the basic network
administrative tasks. Printing, rebooting, backup, problem-solving
strategies and troubleshooting tactics. A great course for brand
new network administrators or persons interested in pursuing a
career in network administration. 4 – 6 hours depending
on class size and level. All Levels of Users Welcome.
Introduction
to Microsoft PowerPoint: Hands On: Available On Site:
Learn how to run a slide show using PowerPoint, create and enhance
presentations, and create charts and tables. Learn all of the
tricks to make any presentations look professional and powerful.
Whether for work, church, or community organizations; PowerPoint
is the tool for presenting your ideas, strategies, plan, reports,
etc. 6 hours. Prerequisites include Introduction to Windows, Introduction
to Word, and Introduction to Excel.
Introduction
to Microsoft Access: Hands On Instructor Led: Available
On Site: Understand tables, relational database architecture,
forms, data entry, using databases to maintain inventory, mailing
lists, contributions and other business functions. 6 ½
hours. Intermediate to Advanced Users only.
Introduction
to Graphic Design: Hands On: Available On or Off Site:
Students bring design needs to class and instructor advises best
methods of design using standard software applications. Class
will learn about the power of color, standard advertising tactics,
and how to stylize photos and text. Types of projects to bring
are brochure needs, flyers, project reports, applications, and
some Web graphics possible. Specify when you sign up for the course
the nature of your special project. Up to 6 hours. All Users Welcome.
Using
Microsoft Outlook/ Outlook Express: Lecture with Workbook:
Learn how to set up your email account(s) using Microsoft Outlook
and/or Outlook Express. Learn standard email conventions and etiquette.
3 hours. All Users Welcome.
Website
Marketing: Part lecture, part discussion, part hands-on:
An open and candid discussion about marketing on the Internet,
how it is usually done, strategic problems, solutions for your
e-business. Bring questions and examples to the class for a more
relevant discussion. 4 hours. All Users Welcome.
Labs,
Presentations and Electives: The Madison County Agri-Business
Center is open to the public at all times it is not in use for
classes. Call to schedule a time to work independently in the
lab. Center staff are also available to speak to special groups
regarding a variety of technology-related issues. Call to schedule
an appointment. Elective courses or special projects are encouraged.
